Ash's voice is grating and painful and awful and 100% dead-on, given the reality that Ash is a huge tool. Unfortunately, his drunk whore of a mother sounds pretty similar. When I changed the tab to continue writing this entry, I couldn't even tell them apart. Gary's is also a solid one, but some of the randos in the crowd also are doing the...how would you call it...I'm a doofus voice. Misty too. I think it's the constant falsetto that's giving me some trouble. Both male and female characters have it—it's mildly disconcerting after a while.
Giving Pikachu actual lines was, I think, a genius move—one which adds limitless potential for personalization and more opportunities for just about anything positive that could be in an abridged series. His character is great. The fact that Ash can't hear him, also great. Personally, I think the two Pokemon voices are the strongest in the episode.
It's been a while since I played the game...but either the background music is that sugary Pokemon gameboy chiptunes goodness, or MasterWGS used the soundtrack to Dr. Mario—mhmm, gameboy music. Love it (ocremix.org is awesome). Not really sure what it's doing there throughout the entire episode, but it's quiet enough, so I can take the extra flavor.
On an unrelated note, Pikachu is infinitely cuter than the main three starter Pokemon. Too bad he was worthless in the game until he becomes Raichu. Raichu is the Chun Li to Pikachu's Cammy.
Not bad for a first episode. Pokedex FTW.
Favorite lines:
"Yes, there is a God"
"Sniffff" — the cocaine joke is actually funnier if you don't explain it. If you have to explain it, it will never be funny.
"Hey Jerkface. Take off the rope. I know how to walk."
"If you spoke human language, then that would have made sense."

Ahh yes. The first episode. Some love it, some don't. I suppose you run on the 'don't' side.

Actually no. I think even at episode 1, the writing is really quite funny and the acting is above average (doofus voice notwithstanding). The pokedex and pikachu are fantastic characters.
